On this page is the step - by - step process of
creating a beautiful fine art portrait from a snapshot photo.

This is a memorial portrait of a dog that has passed away.
Her owner really wanted me to capture the intent expression
that Kalani would have as she listened.
The painting is done with pastels on sanded paper.

When the client received the painting, here is her response:

"Oh Liz, she's absolutely beautiful and you did capture her expression! I don't think we can wait to hang her up till the other two are done, so it looks like we'll get her framed and just buy frames for the other two that go with their personalities. Thanks so much."

First I took the photos that the client sent and removed all the background.

Coming along nicely, don't you think?
Don't worry about her odd foot, it will get fixed
Also her face is not finished.

I will start on the background today.
I think that a kind of abstract leafy type
greenish background with purple shadows would be nice,
what do you think?

I get too involved in the dog and forget to do the background.
I should work on it before I finish her up ;o)
